Sun Dried Tomato Gnocchi: A Love Spell
February is a time when love starts to fill the air.
It should be a beautiful time, but it can also feel depressing or suffocating if we aren't experiencing the internal love for ourselves we deserve.
It's this time of the year I make sure to include surplus of love spells. Not only to ensure the connection between my husband and myself stays strong but also to ensure that I, first and foremost. Love myself.
As RuPaul always says, "If you can't love yourself, how the hell are you going to love yourself?"
This Gnocchi is focused on self-love. However, the ingredients are also great if you want to adjust for external as well. Just make sure to change your intention and incantation.
Ingredients and Their Magickal Properties - Kitchen Magick
As I always mention in my recipe posts, the purpose of what I do as a kitchen witch relies on knowledge and intention.
Yes, this recipe will still taste delicious without transforming it into a spell. However, knowing your ingredients is essential to utilize this recipe to help change your mind, body, and spirit.
Below is a list of each added ingredient and its extraordinary power for this recipe. Please note that this is not every magical benefit of this plant or herb; these are just the areas I believe should be focused on for this specific recipe.
Garlic
Not only is it great for keeping away vampires ;), but garlic has a rich history in food and medicine. In general, most cultures that adopted garlic in one of those forms also know and utilize its magick.
In folk medicine, garlic is known for its antibiotic, expectorant, and diaphoretic abilities.
Its expectorant property isn't the only thing garlic is known for expelling. Magickally, garlic has a strong use for expelling malicious entities.
With its purification powers, garlic also lends itself to the magickal powers of strength.
Now, you may be thinking, why does that matter in a love spell? Because, frankly, it takes a lot of strength for us to look inward and love all of ourselves.
For our spell, garlic is used to help purify the negativity keeping us from loving ourselves and helps provide strength to do what we need for self love.
Magickal Powers: Purification, Strength
Tomato
Known as the "golden fruit" (a term coined by botanist Mattioli), the tomato is associated with Aphrodite and Venus. Very fitting for our fruit of love.
Also known as "love apples", they carry the energy of Venus and is associated with the element water. Lore of women wearing dried tomato seeds were used to attract a mate.
For our spell, our sun-dried tomatoes lend it's magickal traits of love and passion. Not only to help us find internal love but also to feel passionately obsessed with ourselves.
Magickal Powers: Love, Passion
Black Pepper
Black pepper, believed to be ruled by Mars, is a highly used spice. It's also likely a spiced you are highly underusing magically.
With its fire element associations, black pepper isn't only fantastic for protection and purification, but it also is excellent for warming of the heart and bringing us courage.
Just like I mentioned in our garlic section, sometimes it isn't easy to truly love all of ourselves. Our black pepper gives us the courage to look inward and love even the parts that society may turn its nose up at.
Magickal Powers: Courage
Paprika
Just like paprika will add a bit of spice to our meal, it will also help add a bit of "spice" to our spell.
Not only used for promoting passion, this sun-ruled spice gives us speed and power to give our meal a quick result..
Magickal Powers: Speed, Power

How to Implement Magick into the Recipe
*When adding your ingredients, remember to focus on the intention of the ingredient while working with it. (I.E., when folding in your flour, focus on the intention of abundance.
Not just the idea, but how does it make you feel? How does having these things in your life manifest?
I also recommend using the intentional stirring and speaking method to add to this spell. Stir counterclockwise for energies that need to be removed and clockwise for energies you wish to implement while speaking your incantations (or intention) out loud.
For example, I would speak while chopping up the garlic.
Spirit of garlic, bless this dish with purification and strength
I recommend also consecrating via an incantation when the recipe is all said and done. Although I always recommend creating your own, as spells tend to be more powerful, you can also use the incantation below:
Through this dish, I bring in the blessings of love. May I sense the external love of the universe, as well as find the love within myself. To truly see all parts of me, and find the magick within. So as it's been, so as it is, so as it may be.

Add in chopped basil (can used dried if not available, but fresh tastes best!).
Bring to a boil and cover. Reduce to medium-high heat and cook until gnocchi is done (about 7-10 minutes).
While gnocchi is cooking, chop cooked bacon into bite-sized pieces.
Drain the sun-dried tomatoes to remove the liquid.
One liquid is reduced, and gnocchi is done; add the drained tomato. (Spirit of tomato, may you bless this dish with love).
Add in bacon and stir.
Serve and eat with the intention of increasing love and affection for yourself.
