Ingredients and Their Magickal Properties - Kitchen Magick
As I always mention in my recipe posts, the purpose of my work as a kitchen witch relies on knowledge and intention.
Yes, this recipe will still taste delicious without transforming it into a spell. However, knowing your ingredients is essential to utilizing this recipe to help change your mind, body, and spirit.
Below is a list of each added ingredient and its extraordinary power for this recipe. Please note that this is not every magical benefit of this plant or herb; these are just the areas I believe should be focused on for this specific recipe.
Pumpkin
Associated with the moon and the earth element, pumpkins are useful in magick geared towards the physical realm. Their thick and typically large bodies make them especially good at holding energy, whether for manifestation or negativity from cleansing.
This makes it ideal for health magick. Not only does it have magickal powers of health, but since it holds energy, we can expect it to pull in energy that affects our health.
Magickal Powers: Health, Storing Energy, Prosperity, Protection, Wish
Sage
A go-to herb when it comes to purification, sage's purification power is strong (yes, even garden sage).
Sage is known for its ability to cleanse and clear away negative energy, helping create a protective space where healing can truly thrive. By adding it to my pumpkin risotto, I’m not just flavoring the dish—I’m harnessing its power to remove any energetic blockages that might be hindering my health.
It is associated with the element air, bringing in energies of clarity and wisdom. This is also beneficial for taking steps to keep us in good health mentally and physically. I love that it works on multiple levels to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit.
Sage is a key player in restoring balance, both physically and spiritually, making it an essential part of this recipe’s magick.

Ingredients
4 cups chicken bone broth (can sub regular broth or vegetable broth)
5 slices thick-cut bacon
10 fresh sage leaves
5 sprigs fresh thyme, de-stemmed
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 cup arborio rice
1 tsp salt, plus more to taste
1/2 tsp black pepper, plus more to taste
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1/2 parmesan cheese, finely grated
Directions
Chop bacon into 1-inch pieces. In a large pot, add the bacon and cook over medium heat until crisp (approximately 10 minutes). Remove bacon from pan and set aside. Reserve the grease in the pot.
Add the fresh sage, de-stemmed thyme, and crushed garlic to the pot with the bacon grease and cook for 1 minute over medium heat until the sage is crispy and easily breakable and the garlic is fragrant. When the sage is crispy, remove it from the pot. Crush 3-5 sage leaves and add them back to the pot.
Add rice and cook till lightly toasted (approximately 1-2 minutes), stirring constantly.
Add 1/2 cup of the chicken broth and reduce the temperature to low. Stir the rice/broth mixture constantly until the broth is mostly absorbed.
Repeat the process of adding 1/2 cup of broth at a time until the rice absorbs all the liquid (about 20 minutes).
Add pumpkin, parmesan, salt, and pepper. Crumble reserved bacon (and additional sage leaves if desired) over the risotto. Top with extra parmesan if desired.
(With every grain and every spice,
May wellness fill, strong and precise.
