Ingredients and Their Magickal Properties - Kitchen Magick
As I always mention in my recipe posts, the purpose of my work as a kitchen witch relies on knowledge and intention.
Yes, this recipe will still taste delicious without transforming it into a spell. However, knowing your ingredients is essential to utilizing this recipe to help change your mind, body, and spirit.
Below is a list of each added ingredient and its extraordinary power for this recipe. Please note that this is not every magical benefit of this plant or herb; these are just the areas I believe should be focused on for this specific recipe.
Salmon
Sacred to the Druids, salmon teaches us wisdom, resilience, and adaptability. Their inherited knowledge of the changing seasons and when to begin the journey helps guide us through rebirth and new beginnings.
Their attribute of wisdom helps remind us we will always return home to help release fear around new beginnings and the unknown.
For our spell recipe, we tap into salmon's magickal attributes of rebirth, new beginnings, wisdom, and determination.
Magickal Powers: New Beginnings, Rebirth, Determination, Wisdom
Dill
Dill has been used for centuries to bring success and blessings. Roman gladiators would rub their bodies with dill oil before the battle. Emperors would wear dill crowns to ensure successful and long reigns. Dill would be placed above doorways to bring blessings into the home. Brides would carry dill for good luck.
Dill corresponds to the planet Mercury and the element of fire; we use dill in our spell to bring in blessings and success in our new beginnings.
Magickal Uses: Success, Blessings
Paprika
Beyond a vibrant spice, paprika is potent for speed, power, and success. Its fiery energy is that of swift action and dynamic energy, which makes it an excellent catalyst for our spell to help create or break habits.
For our spell, using paprika will help accelerate the transformation process, not only by speed but also by helping burn away things that keep us stuck and provide us with willpower and strength.
Magickal Uses: Strength, Power, Speed, Vitality, Willpower
Oregano
A wild Greek herb named "joy of the mountain" is associated with folk magick and is tied to happiness and peace. In Greek mythology, Oregano symbolized the joy Aphrodite grew in her garden.
For our spell, we tap into oregano's relation to Mercury and the element air to allow peaceful new beginnings.
Magickal Uses: Happiness, Peace
Lemon
Lemons are a fantastic purifier. They clear out negative energy and leave behind joy and refreshment to help start things off on a good foot.
Magickal Uses: Purification, Joy, Refreshment

1/2 lemon juiced
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 tsp smoked paprika

While salmon is cooking, combine green yogurt, green onions, dill, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and lemon juice in a large bowl.
Flake salmon and add it to the mixture. Add chopped cucumbers.
Stir till well combined and serve with the intention of bright new beginnings.
(Bless this dish for a new beginning; let go of the past and keep me from spinning.
Invite the universe to guide my way; with strength and grace, I seize the day.
With clarity and hope, new doors set me free. So as it’s been, so as it is, so as it may be.)
