Rose Simple Syrup (A Self Love Potion)

As Valentine's draws nearer, the energy of love increases around us. And although this can be beautiful, it can also be detrimental.

More often than not, we focus on external love and validation.

We should be putting our empowerment first.

No external love will feel the same power as first loving yourself.

As seeing your true beauty.

Your talents.

What makes you uniquely and beautifully you.

This is why I love this simple rose syrup recipe.

The syrup-jammed pack is full of healing and self-love. And simple to add to items in your daily routine (think cocktails, coffee, etc.).

You will, obviously need some rose petals for this recipe. Making sure you're not using just flowers you get from the florist.

Luckily dried rose petals aren't too hard to find. If you'd like to purchase some to work with you can do so here. I personally love frontier co-ops product and recommend. Every herb I get from them is high grade.

Rose Simple Syrup

Ingredients and Their Magickal Properties

As I always mention in my recipe posts, the purpose of what I do as a kitchen witch relies on knowledge and intention.

Yes, this recipe will still taste delicious without transforming it into a spell, but if you are a magick practitioner and also wish to utilize this recipe to help transform your mind, body, and spirit, then knowing and activating your ingredients to work with your desired outcome is highly important.

Below is a list of each added ingredient and its extraordinary power for this recipe. Please note that this is not every magickal benefit of this plant or herb, just the areas I believe should be focused on for this specific recipe.

Rose

Rose has become the ultimate folklore symbol of love. You can find it in mythology across multiple cultures (but it does have a stronghold in Roman and Greek mythology especially).

Although the rose is mostly associated with external, romantic love, its power extends past that. It’s a symbol of power for devotion, passion, healing, and love—all things you can use for yourself internally. You simply need to ensure that the intention of admiration is turned on yourself. Everything else will follow.

Magickal Powers: Healing, Love, Attraction (self-confidence), Beauty

Sugar

Whereas salt is known in witchcraft to purify and repel, its friend sugar cane does the opposite, it attracts. Once again, just like a rose, it can be used to extract external attention, but here I want you to focus the intention on using it to boost the intention of your rose. Focus its power to know what makes you attractive and beautiful.

Focus on it, bringing in the healing you need for self-care, the passion you need for yourself, and most of all, the devotion to yourself to set the boundaries you need.

Magickal Powers: Attraction, Love, Lust

How to Implement Magick into the Recipe

*When adding your ingredients, remember to focus on the intention of the ingredient while working with it. (I.E., when adding the rose, focus on the intention of love, healing, and devotion. Not just the idea, but how do they make you feel? How does having these things in your life manifest?

I also recommend using the intentional stirring and speaking method to add to this spell. Simply stir counterclockwise for energies that need to be removed and clockwise for energies that you wish to implement while speaking your incantations (or intention) out loud.

For example, when adding the rose, I would stir clockwise three times while speaking to the pot.

Spirit of rose, bless this potion with internal love. Help to provide healing from energies keeping one from their own self-love, devotion, and confidence.

When the recipe is all said and done, I recommend concentrating on an incantation. Although I always recommend creating your own as they tend to be more powerful, you can also use the incantation below:

Through sugar, rose, and water. I bring in self-love and self-validation. I see my worth and my beauty and welcome in my own internal devotion. So as it has been, so as it is, so as it may be.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Rose Petals (Food-Grade)

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup water (for an extra boost, use moon water)

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients into a heat-safe pot while performing the steps mentioned in “how to implement magic” mentioned intention. Ensure that all the sugar and rose are covered by water.

  2. Bring water to a boil.

  3. Once boiling, turn down the heat and simmer for at least 10 minutes.

  4. The syrup is ready once all sugar has been dissolved. The syrup should be just thick enough to coat a back of a spoon.

  5. Strain rose petals out of the syrup and store them in an airtight container.

  6. Speak your incantation to consecrate the syrup.

  7. Store in the fridge.
