Ingredients and Their Magickal Properties - Kitchen Magick
As I always mention in my recipe posts, the purpose of my work as a kitchen witch relies on knowledge and intention.
Yes, this recipe will still taste delicious without transforming it into a spell. However, knowing your ingredients is essential to utilizing this recipe to help change your mind, body, and spirit.
Below is a list of each added ingredient and its extraordinary power for this recipe. Please note that this is not every magical benefit of this plant or herb; these are just the areas I believe should be focused on for this specific recipe.
Flour
Wheat has been worshipped as a symbol of abundance for centuries. A good harvest foreshadowed a year of good fortune, so an abundant harvest equaled a plentiful year.
Our flour does just that; it adds the idea of an abundance of health, helping to amplify the spell.
Magickal Powers: Abundance
Apples
Apples are a powerhouse for witches and spellwork. We have seen their usefulness across the years. It holds the symbolism and power of the pentagram (via seeds), and there is a ton of folklore around its magickal uses.
Part of this usefulness is apples' health benefits. The saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" acknowledges apples' nutritive properties and their usage in folk medicine and mythology. In Norse mythology, the gods ate apples of immortality gifted by Idunn to preserve their youth. In the Middle Ages, a 'smelling apple' was carried around to prevent plague or exposure to other miasmas.
Apples' feminine energy and water element add the healing power we seek in the spell's intention. For herbalism and plant magick, you can view more details on apples here.
Magickal Uses: Health, Longevity.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon has a rich history, from its use in medicine in Egypt to offerings in Greece.
One of my favorite magickal uses of cinnamon is for its power of success, power and speed. For this spell, we're essentially utilizing that power to guarantee its success.
