Ingredients and Their Magickal Properties - Kitchen Magick
As I always mention in my recipe posts, the purpose of my work as a kitchen witch relies on knowledge and intention.
Yes, this recipe will still taste delicious without transforming it into a spell. However, knowing your ingredients is essential to utilize this recipe to help change your mind, body, and spirit.
Below is a list of each added ingredient and its extraordinary power for this recipe. Please note that this is not every magical benefit of this plant or herb; these are just the areas I believe should be focused on for this specific recipe.
Raspberry
As Cunningham states, "the scent of ripe berries, even if they're packed in a carton, can be cheering. And I fully agree with this statement, you'll find the spell starts promoting happiness during the process of baking as the raspberry scent floats through the air (the chocolate doesn't hurt either).
With its venus planetary association and water element, raspberries really help us tap into our emotions to truely feel happiness and gratitude instead of toxic positivity.
Magickal Powers: Happiness, Love
Cacao - Chocolate
The Maya believed the cacao tree was from the gods—a gift of divine love that brought about people's well-being, especially concerning fertility.
Mother Earth provides this energy through Cacao's chemical compounds that release dopamine and serotonin into one who ingests the plant.
Chocolate is providing us with more than just happiness. It also has attributes for relaxation, gratitude, and comfort, which is excellent when promoting joy.
Magickal Uses: Peace/Relaxation, Comfort, Love, Gratitude, Happiness, Health.
Salt
It is such a seemingly minor ingredient, yet an essential one in both taste and energy. Anyone who has accidentally forgotten to add salt to a baked good can tell you how that little tsp is a stepping stone between amazing and disgusting.
Salt is associated with the earth element, making it excellent for grounding. I find when performing happiness or peace spells; it helps to utilize the power of grounding to help those get out of their thoughts and return to the physical.
Our salt for this spell is for purifying. We first pave the way by removing the negative to bring in positive energy. It's a simple concept but one of great power. This is why I try to add one purifying ingredient into all of my workings, as you're just increasing the power and success of your spell.
Magickal Powers: purification, grounding.

*When adding your ingredients, remember to focus on the intention of the ingredient while working with it. (I.E., when adding your raspberries, focus on the intention of joy).
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
7 oz dark chocolate
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup flour
Frosting - Optional
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup powdered sugar
Raspberry Compote
12 oz red raspberries, fresh or frozen
2 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
2 1/2 tbsp water, cold
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions
Brownie Cake
Preheat the oven to 350F and prepare a 6-inch cake pan (bigger cake pan will result in thinner brownies).
Place chocolate and butter in a heat-safe container over a pan of simmering water to melt. Stir often until the mixture is completely melted.
While the mixture is melting, combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Set aside.
Remove the chocolate mixture from the stove when completely melted. Add in sugar and mix well.
Once the mixture has cooled, add in eggs one at a time. Whisk until mixed.
Add in vanilla extract.
Fold the mixture into the dry ingredients. Combine until well mixed.
Pour batter into cake pan and bake for 40-50 minutes or until a knife comes out sticky but not runny (if you use a larger pan, it will take less time. Try 30-35 minutes).
When the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes before removing it from the pan to completely cool.
While cooling, start on raspberry compote.
Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and rest for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan.
Cool it to room temperature or keep in the fridge before decorating with chocolate ganache.
Raspberry Compote
In a pot, create a slurry by mixing cornstarch and cold water until well combined.
Add in raspberries, sugar, and vanilla extract.
Bring the stove to medium heat and allow to cook until raspberries start to juice (about 2-4 minutes)
Once raspberries have started to juice, boil over medium-high heat.
Allow to boil for about 5 minutes while stirring constantly to prevent from burning.
Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Fudge Frosting
Combine cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and heavy cream. Whisk until well combined. Add heavy cream as needed to thin out the frosting.
Once the cake is completely cool, top with fudge frosting and raspberry compote to taste. Eat with the intention of happiness.
