Ingredients and Their Magickal Properties - Kitchen Magick
As I always mention in my recipe posts, the purpose of my work as a kitchen witch relies on knowledge and intention.
Yes, this recipe will still taste delicious without transforming it into a spell. However, knowing your ingredients is essential to utilizing this recipe to help change your mind, body, and spirit.
Below is a list of each added ingredient and its extraordinary power for this recipe. Please note that this is not every magical benefit of this plant or herb; these are just the areas I believe should be focused on for this specific recipe.
Milk/Cheese
Milk and cheese were not only considered a staple but a luxury for our ancestors. It holds the power of nourishment and love but also comfort.
We tap into this energy for our spell to help pave the way for our abundance. Remember that feeling abundant is mostly about how we feel, not necessarily what we have. If we do not feel abundant, it doesn't matter what we have. This love and nourishment helps us calm the anxieties of our ego to remind us all we have to be grateful for.
Magickal Powers: Love, Nourishment, Luxury, Comfort
Flour/Bread
Flour and grain represented how people expected the year to go in the old days. A good harvest meant great abundance for the year.
This is the energy we tap into; it is the basis for our abundance spell. We utilize the magickal attributes of flour to not only help us feel our abundance but to bring in additional prosperity.
Magickal Powers: Abundance
Egg
Eggs hold the power of life and creation. They are very underutilized in spellwork as their power for creation, transformation, and power of life can be helpful in almost any spellwork.
This is the energy we tap into for our spell here. We are utilizing eggs magickal attribute of creation, to create abundance. To create a space for us to feel, see, and love abundance to attract even more to us.
Magickal Uses: Creation
Ham
Pigs are a symbol of luck, fortune and wealth. In some cultures, they are associated with feasting (ever see a historical tv show with the pig on a table with an apple in its mouth).
It is considered abundance in itself, luxury and good fortune.
Magickal Uses: Good Luck, Fortune

*When adding your ingredients, remember to focus on the intention of the ingredient while working with it. (I.E., when adding your butter, focus on the intention of nourishment).
Ingredients
Bechamel Sauce
3 tbsp butter, salted
1 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt, or more to taste
1/2 tsp black pepper or more to taste
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Sandwich Assemble
4 slices of thick bread
4 oz gruyere cheese, grated
2 large eggs
4 oz ham
Directions
Begin by making the bechamel sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
Add flour, and whisk thoroughly, ensuring no lumps. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
Increase the heat to medium-high and begin adding milk. Remove the pot from heat and add 1/3 of the milk. Stir to combine and add back to heat, whisking until there are no lumps and the mixture is fully combined. Repeat the process two more times until all the milk has been added.
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer before reducing the heat to medium-low. Add the seasoning and allow it to cook until the flour taste has been cooked out—approximately 10-15 minutes.
Once the sauce has been created, begin assembling your sandwiches. Preheat oven to 425 F and prepare a baking sheet. Assemble the sandwich with 2 slices of bread on the sheet. Top with bechamel sauce, ham, and grated cheese. Place additional bread slices and top with sauce and grated cheese.
Place sandwiches in the oven and cook for 5-7 minutes, until cheese is melted.
Turn the broiler on high heat and allow it to broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese becomes golden brown.
While sandwiches are cooking, poach or fry two eggs (one for each sandwich) to your preference. When sandwiches are completed, remove them from the oven and top with the cooked egg.
Serve and eat with the intention of abundance.
(Bless this meal, in layers divine,
Abundance flow, through bread and brine
Richness and bounty, all shall see,
Blessed abundance, so mote it be.)
